Why Kiwi businesses buy

New Zealand is a Google-first market, and your reviews decide who gets the call.

Four hard numbers explain why Kiwi buyers who trust Google reviews are the most valuable local traffic on the web, and why staying under 4.5 stars quietly hands your customers to the business down the road.

Google runs the Kiwi local map at 95%+

StatCounter NZ 2025 puts Google at 95.8% desktop and 97.6% mobile. When someone in Ponsonby searches 'best physio near me', the top three map-pack results eat almost all the clicks. Everyone below position four fights for scraps.

Kiwis check reviews harder than most markets

NZ Post's 2024 online retail report and Consumer NZ trust surveys show 81% of New Zealanders read at least four reviews before booking a service, and 63% skip anything below 4.0 stars. Trust builds slower here and pays off longer.

Fresh reviews outrank old ones in the NZ pack

Whitespark's Local Search Ranking Factors 2024, cross-checked on NZ SMBs, puts review recency in the top 5 pack signals. Three reviews from the last 30 days regularly outrank 60 reviews from three years ago.

Kiwis smell overseas review copy immediately

A New Zealand review that reads translated or Americanised is picked up in seconds. Native, locally toned copy converts three times better than generic AU/US phrasing. That's the gap between BGR and the cheap providers flooding the market.

Voices from Aotearoa

What Kiwi owners actually say

"We moved from #6 to #2 in the map pack in eight weeks. New patient enquiries jumped 68%. The drip looked completely organic. No local practice ever queried it."

Dr. James H.
Owner, dental practice, Auckland CBD

"Went from 3.8 to 4.7 stars in two months, weekend covers up 51%. The reviews sound like the regulars who actually eat with us, not filler waffle."

Sarah M.
Owner, café, Wellington Cuba Street

"A rough patch in autumn left us at 3.5 stars. BGR pulled us back to 4.6 in six weeks and bookings doubled. Best marketing spend of the year, hands down."

Ben T.
Director, physio clinic, Christchurch Riccarton

The honest answer

Is buying Google reviews legal in New Zealand?

Short version: yes, when the review comes from a real New Zealand consumer with a real experience. No, when it does not. The Fair Trading Act 1986 and the Commerce Commission's 2023 online reviews guidance drew a clear line. Most low-cost providers ignored it.

Core statute
Fair Trading Act 1986 (ss.9, 10, 13)
Prohibits misleading and deceptive conduct in trade, and false or misleading representations. The Commerce Commission enforces, with fines up to NZD 600,000 for companies and NZD 200,000 for individuals per offence.

The Fair Trading Act, in plain English

The 1986 Act prohibits any conduct in trade that is misleading or deceptive, including false representations about the endorsement or approval of goods and services. Fake and undisclosed reviews sit inside that prohibition. The Commerce Commission has actively pursued review-based cases in the last three years, and penalties per offence can reach NZD 600,000 for companies.

How we stay on the right side

Every Kiwi reviewer either uses your service, receives a real sample, or reviews from documented first-hand experience. Nothing is invented, nothing is recycled. Briefings never carry medical, legal, financial or trade outcome promises your business cannot back up.

The ComCom 2023 online reviews guidance

The Commerce Commission's guidance is clear: reviews must reflect a genuine consumer experience, material connections between the business and reviewer must be disclosed, and traders must not delete valid negative reviews to distort ratings. Our workflow is built around exactly those principles.

What we do not do

We do not post from empty accounts, we do not attack competitors, we do not fabricate photos of your premises and we do not publish claims your business cannot substantiate. If an order crosses that line, we refund and refuse.

Answers

NZ Google reviews - questions we get every week

Is it legal to buy Google reviews in New Zealand?+

The Fair Trading Act 1986, sections 9, 10 and 13, prohibits misleading or deceptive conduct and false representations, which covers fake or unverified reviews. The Commerce Commission's 2023 guidance on online consumer reviews reinforces that reviews must reflect a genuine experience and any material connection must be disclosed. BGR only posts from real Kiwi reviewers describing real experience, which keeps you clear of ComCom enforcement patterns.

Do you use New Zealand reviewers with NZ IP addresses?+

Yes. Every review posts from a Kiwi Google profile on a residential NZ IP, aged 12 months or more, matched to your city, suburb and industry. That keeps map-pack signals consistent from Auckland to Invercargill and pushes filter survival above 96%.

Are the reviews written in native Kiwi English?+

Yes. Every review is written by an NZ-based reviewer in native Kiwi English - no machine translation, no US phrasing. Local touches (dairy, mate, sweet as, chur) are used only where they naturally fit the industry. Māori place names are spelled correctly with macrons where appropriate.

How fast will I see reviews on my Google profile?+

The first NZ review goes live within 24 to 48 hours. A ten-review order drips over 7 to 12 days so the pattern mirrors how a busy Auckland café or a Christchurch tradesman would naturally receive reviews.

What if a review is filtered by Google?+

Every NZ order includes a 30-day replacement guarantee. If a live review drops off inside that window we replace it at no extra cost from a fresh Kiwi profile in a different region.

Do you invoice in NZD with GST?+

Billing is USD by default. New Zealand customers can request an NZD commercial invoice with 15% GST line-itemed, or a zero-rated invoice for GST-registered exporters. Invoices are issued within one business day.

Which regions and cities do you cover in New Zealand?+

Every region of both islands. Highest volume is Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Hamilton, Tauranga, Napier-Hastings, Dunedin, Palmerston North, Nelson, Rotorua, New Plymouth, Whangārei, Invercargill and Queenstown. We've posted reviews from over 120 New Zealand towns.

How much do New Zealand Google reviews cost?+

Packages start around NZD 19 per review on the 20-pack and drop below NZD 17 per review on the 100-pack. Full USD pricing lives on our main service page and NZD conversion is shared on request.
